Pacific Park, (formerly Atlantic Yards) B2 BKLYN is a 380,000 square foot, 32-story residential tower adjacent to the Barclays Center Arena in Brooklyn, New York, and is part of a US $4.9 billion, 22-acre entertainment, business, and residential complex, which includes an 18,000-seat arena for the Brooklyn Nets. B2BKLYN is designed to be built using modular construction methods where the modular units are fabricated and finished off site in a local factory, brought to site, stacked and connected. The project is ground breaking for high-rise modular construction and paves the way for affordable housing construction methods in urban settings. The project team was challenged to develop processes and design solutions to optimize the prefabrication and delivery of the project, while dealing with unique constraints of tolerances, spatial and access requirements, and delivery methods unique to modular construction. This project showed a fundamental stepchange, an integration of BIM as central to the delivery strategy, and the creation of new processes in integrated project delivery, software integration and rapid prototyping.
